AISL Grade 1 Benchmarks in Social Studies

- AISL.SST.01 HISTORY: Students will understand patterns of change and continuity, relationships between people and events through time, and the causes and effects of interaction among societies.
- AISL.SST.01.G1.01 Identify how people, societies, and technology can change over time.
- AISL.SST.01.G1.02 Identify tools and inventions that have helped people.
- AISL.SST.02 GEOGRAPHY: Students will understand the concepts of geography and how they contribute to the interaction between humans and natural and man-made environments.
- AISL.SST.02.G1.01 Create and use simple maps to identify the location of places in the school.
- AISL.SST.02.G1.02 Recognize the use of symbols on maps to represent real things.
- AISL.SST.02.G1.03 Locate their local community, country and seven continents and four oceans on the map or globe.
- AISL.SST.02.G1.04 Construct simple maps using cardinal directions and map symbols.
- AISL.SST.03 CIVICS AND GOVERNMENT: Students will understand why societies create and adopt systems of government and how these systems address human needs, rights, and citizen responsibilities.
- AISL.SST.03.G1.01 Explain the need for rules in the home, school and community.
- AISL.SST.03.G1.02 Give examples of rules that establish order, provide security and manage conflict.
- AISL.SST.04 CULTURE: Students will understand cultural and intellectual developments and interactions among and within societies

- AISL.SST.04.G1.02 Identify the forms of diversity in the school and understand the benefits and challenges of a diverse community.

- AISL.SST.05 ECONOMICS: Students will understand fundamental economic principles and ways in which economies are shaped by geographic and human factors
- AISL.SST.05.G1.01 Understand the concept of exchange and the use of money to purchase goods and services.
- AISL.SST.05.G1.02 Understand the specialized work that people do to manufacture, transport and market goods and services and the contribution of those who work at home.
