AISL Pre-K Benchmarks in Mathematics
(Revised June, 2010)
- AISL.MAT.01 Number Sense: Students will understand and apply numbers, ways of representing numbers, relationships among numbers, and number systems.
- AISL.MAT.01.PK.01 Arrange a set of manipulative to correspond with whole numbers to 10 or higher, counting aloud as they work
- AISL.MAT.01.PK.02 Use language to begin to compare sets of manipulative (e.g. “the same”, “equal”, “more than”, “less than”, etc.)
- AISL.MAT.01.PK.03 Begin to estimate how many are in a group of three or more objects without counting
- AISL.MAT.01.PK.04 Recognize and describe the concept of zero (“there are none”)
- AISL.MAT.01.PK.05 Begin to demonstrate “part of” and “a whole” with real objects
- AISL.MAT.02 Computation : Students will estimate, compute, and assess reasonableness of solutions.
- AISL.MAT.02.PK.01 Use manipulatives for addition and subtraction of numbers up to 10
- AISL.MAT.03 Algebra: Students will use algebraic methods to represent, analyze, and solve problems
- AISL.MAT.03.PK.01 Imitate patterns of sounds and physical movements (e.g., clap, stomp, clap, and stomp)
- AISL.MAT.03.PK.02 Recognize and reproduce simple patterns with manipulatives (e.g.a string of beads that are yellow, blue, yellow, blue)
- AISL.MAT.03.PK.03 Begin to recognize patterns in their environment (e.g., day follows night, repeated phrases in story books, patterns in carpeting or clothing)
- AISL.MAT.03.PK.04 Begin to predict what comes next when patterns are extended
- AISL.MAT.03.PK.05 Compare set of objects; determine which has more or less
- AISL.MAT.04 Measurement: Students will estimate and measure accurately by using appropriate units, tools, and technologies.
- AISL.MAT.04.PK.01 Begin to make size comparisons between objects (e.g., “taller/shorter than”, “nearer/farther than”, “heavier/lighter than”, “bigger/smaller than”)
- AISL.MAT.04.PK.02 Begin to categorize time intervals and use language associated with time in everyday situations (e.g., “in the morning”, “after snack”)
- AISL.MAT.04.PK.03 Begin to use tools imitating the act of measuring
- AISL.MAT.04.PK.04 Begin to order two or three objects by size (seriation: largest to small)
- AISL.MAT.04.PK.05 Cover an area with shapes (e.g., tiles)
- AISL.MAT.04.PK.06 Fill a shape with solids or liquids (e.g., ice cubes, water) and quantify the amount (e.g., number of cups, gallons, etc)
- AISL.MAT.05 Geometry: Students will apply the properties and relationships of geometric figures to represent, analyze and solve problems.
- AISL.MAT.05.PK.01 Recognize, describe and name shapes (e.g., circles, triangles, rectangles, including squares
- AISL.MAT.05.PK.02 Begin to use words that indicate where things are n the space (e.g beside, inside, behind, above, below)
- AISL.MAT.05.PK.03 Begin to recognize when a shape position or orientation has changed
- AISL.MAT.05.PK.04 Begin to investigate and predict the results of putting together two or more shapes
- AISL.MAT.05.PK.05 Put together puzzles of increasing complexity (20+ pcs.)
- AISL.MAT.06 Data Analysis and Probability: Students will collect, organize, analyze, represent and interpret date in order to make decisions and predictions.
- AISL.MAT.06.PK.01 Sort objects into groups by an attribute and begin to explain how the grouping was done
- AISL.MAT.06.PK.02 Describe similarities and differences between sets of objects
- AISL.MAT.06.PK.03 Participate in organizing data by creating and using pictorial graphs (e.g., tallying, charting) and predicting outcomes where applicable
- AISL.MAT.07 Problem Solving: Students will apply a wide variety of mathematical concepts, processes, and skills to solve a broad range of problems.
- AISL.MAT.07.PK.01 Use manipulative for addition and subtraction of numbers up to 10
