AISL Grade 4 Benchmarks in Mathematics

- AISL.MAT.01 Number Sense: Students will understand and apply numbers, ways of representing numbers, relationships among numbers, and number systems.
- AISL.MAT.01.G4.01 Identify (orally and in writing) the place value for each digit in a whole number expressed through millions.
- AISL.MAT.01.G4.02 Compare two whole numbers expressed through millions, using symbols (>, <, or =).
- AISL.MAT.01.G4.03 Round whole numbers expressed through millions to the nearest thousand, ten thousand, and hundred thousand.
- AISL.MAT.01.G4.04 Compare the numerical value of fractions (with like and unlike denominators) having denominators of 12 or less, using concrete materials.
- AISL.MAT.01.G4.05 Read, write, represent, and identify decimals expressed through thousandths.
- AISL.MAT.01.G4.06 Round to the nearest whole number, tenth, and hundredth.
- AISL.MAT.01.G4.07 Compare the value of two decimals, using symbols (<, >, or =), concrete materials, drawings, and calculators.
- AISL.MAT.01.G4.08 Identify and represent equivalent fractions and relate fractions to decimals using concrete objects.
- AISL.MAT.02 Computation : Students will estimate, compute, and assess reasonableness of solutions.
- AISL.MAT.02.G4.01 Add and subtract to 6-digit numbers, written in vertical and horizontal form.
- AISL.MAT.02.G4.02 Estimate whole-number sums, differences, products and quotients and describe the method of estimation.
- AISL.MAT.02.G4.03 Find the product of two whole numbers when one factor has two digits or fewer and the other factor has three digits or fewer, using estimation and paper and pencil. For larger products (a two-digit numeral times a three-digit numeral), estimation and calculators will be used.
- AISL.MAT.02.G4.04 Add and subtract with fractions having like and unlike denominators of 12 or less, using concrete materials, pictorial representations, and paper and pencil; using various computational methods, including calculators, paper and pencil, mental computation, and estimation.
- AISL.MAT.02.G4.05 Add and subtract with decimals through thousandths, using concrete materials, pictorial representations, and paper and pencil.
- AISL.MAT.03 Algebra: Students will use algebraic methods to represent, analyze, and solve problems
- AISL.MAT.03.G4.01 Recognize and demonstrate the meaning of equality, using symbols representing numbers, operations, and relations [e.g. 3 + 5 = 5 + 3 and 15 + (35 + 16) = (15 + 35) + 16].
- AISL.MAT.03.G4.02 Write, evaluate, and interpret addition, subtraction, multiplication and division expressions that contain parenthesis.
- AISL.MAT.03.G4.03 Write and interpret addition and subtraction equations that contain variables.
- AISL.MAT.03.G4.04 Write and evaluate multiplication and division expressions and equations that contain variables and to balance equations.
- AISL.MAT.04 Measurement: Students will estimate and measure accurately by using appropriate units, tools, and technologies.
- AISL.MAT.04.G4.01 Measure and compare length, capacity and weight using appropriate customary and metric units.
- AISL.MAT.04.G4.02 Use multiplication and division to change units within the customary and metric systems of measurement.
- AISL.MAT.04.G4.03 Identify equivalent measurements between units within the U.S. Customary system (inches and feet; feet and yards; inches and yards) and between units within the metric system (millimeters and centimeters; centimeters and meters; and millimeters and meters).
- AISL.MAT.04.G4.04 Estimate and measure weight/mass, using actual measuring devices, and describe the results in U.S. Customary/metric units as appropriate, including ounces, pounds, grams, and kilograms.
- AISL.MAT.04.G4.05 Estimate and measure length, using actual measuring devices, and describe the results in both metric and U.S. Customary units, including part of an inch (1/2, 1/4, and 1/8), inches, feet, yards, millimeters, centimeters, and meters.
- AISL.MAT.04.G4.06 Read and write time to the nearest minute or second.
- AISL.MAT.05 Geometry: Students will apply the properties and relationships of geometric figures to represent, analyze and solve problems.
- AISL.MAT.05.G4.01 Measure, classify and draw angles.
- AISL.MAT.05.G4.02 Identify and draw representations of lines that illustrate intersection, parallelism, and perpendicularity.
- AISL.MAT.05.G4.03 Identify congruent and non-congruent shapes.
- AISL.MAT.05.G4.04 Analyze and compare the properties of two-dimensional (plane) geometric figures (circle, square, rectangle, triangle, parallelogram, and rhombus) and three-dimensional (solid) geometric figures (sphere, cube, and rectangular solid [prism]).
- AISL.MAT.05.G4.05 Investigate congruence of plane figures after geometric transformations such as reflection (flip), translation (slide), and rotation (turn), using mirrors, paper folding, and tracing.
- AISL.MAT.05.G4.06 Identify and draw congruent figures, similar figures, rotational and line symmetry, transformations, tessellations, and geometric patterns.
- AISL.MAT.05.G4.07 Estimate and find area and perimeter of plane shapes.
- AISL.MAT.06 Data Analysis and Probability: Students will collect, organize, analyze, represent and interpret date in order to make decisions and predictions.
- AISL.MAT.06.G4.01 Predict and write the likelihood of outcomes of a simple event, using the terms certain, likely, unlikely, impossible.
- AISL.MAT.06.G4.02 Determine and write the probability of a given simple event, using concrete materials.
- AISL.MAT.07 Problem Solving: Students will apply a wide variety of mathematical concepts, processes, and skills to solve a broad range of problems.
