The Spirit of 2010...
On June 10th of this year, the children of AISL joined the rest of southern Africa in “Welcoming the World” for the FIFA 2010 World Cup, waving their flags, blowing their vuvuzelas, and taking shots on goal in the most international soccer tournament on the continent — including the World Cup itself! It was a sight to behold… if only one could see through the dust being kicked up by the performers and players!
Our school is growing fast! We have more than doubled in enrollment since 2006! But all those additional little feet are taking their toll on our soccer pitch and play areas. The grass is gone, and your urgent help is needed to keep the spirit of 2010 alive on the AISL playground! With plans to refurbish and replant our soccer pitch, provide soft landings under the swings and slides for our little ones, and present a cheerful and inviting face to Maseru and the world, AISL is raising funds by “wavin' the flags” of the almost 40 nationalities represented by the children and families of our diverse and dynamic learning community.
You, too, can WAVE YOUR FLAG!
With your generous contribution of US $100 / R700, you can sponsor a full square foot of your nation’s flag to proudly and permanently fly over the AISL campus. In addition to covering the costs of purchasing, flying, and maintaining your nation’s flag, your generous gift will ensure that your flag flies over the giggles and green grass of the AISL soccer pitch and playground, keeping the memory and spirit of 2010 alive at AISL for years to come!
Once your flag is fully sponsored (24 donors for the USA and Lesotho; just 6 donors for all other nations), the children of AISL will assemble for a flag-raising ceremony, complete with your national anthem, followed by a full day of celebration of and learning about your homeland. Each donor of $100/R700 or more will be recognized on an engraved plaque at the base of each nation’s flagpole.
