- AISL.ELA.01 READING-FLUENCY: Students will read fluently using the skills and strategies of the reading process.
- AISL.ELA.01.G2.01 Read unfamiliar words using context clues, grammar rules, and phonics and syllabication skills.
- AISL.ELA.01.G2.02 Use knowledge of sentence structure, punctuation and grammar to read grade- appropriate selections aloud with fluency, accuracy and expression.
- AISL.ELA.01.G2.03 Read a variety of materials independently.
- AISL.ELA.01.G2.04 Read and follow simple written directions.
- AISL.ELA.02 READING-COMPREHENSION: Students will comprehend, respond to, and analyze a wide variety of literary texts.
- AISL.ELA.02.G2.01 Summarize, sequence, and make inferences and logical predictions based on events in a selection.
- AISL.ELA.02.G2.02 Identify the main ideas, supporting details, and cause and effect of events in a selection.
- AISL.ELA.02.G2.03 Identify the main characters, setting, and genre of a selection.
- AISL.ELA.02.G2.04 Learn and use new vocabulary from a selection.
- AISL.ELA.03 READING-STRATEGIES: Students will apply skills and strategies appropriate for decoding reading of unfamiliar words in a variety of texts
- AISL.ELA.03.G2.01 Predict the meaning of words by using context clues provided by the text.
- AISL.ELA.03.G2.02 Understand and correctly use synonyms, antonyms, and homophones (e.g sea/see).
- AISL.ELA.03.G2.03 Read and comprehend verbs ending in “s/es” (plural), “ed” (past tense), and “ing”(present tense) endings.
- AISL.ELA.03.G2.04 Understand and identify words with similar patterns and meanings.
- AISL.ELA.04 WRITING-MECHANICS: Students will write using the appropriate conventions of the English language.
- AISL.ELA.04.G2.01 Write neatly and legibly and begin to use D’Nealian style cursive writing
- AISL.ELA.04.G2.02 Apply capitalization and punctuation rules
- AISL.ELA.04.G2.03 Correctly spell frequently-used words
- AISL.ELA.04.G2.04 Understand and correctly use parts of speech such as nouns, verbs, adjectives and pronouns
- AISL.ELA.05 WRITING-CONTENT: Students will write with clarity and coherence in a wide variety of contexts.
- AISL.ELA.05.G2.01 Write clear, complete and coherent sentences in a variety of contexts (e.g. genre, purpose, audience)
- AISL.ELA.05.G2.02 Begin to write brief paragraphs and simple stories to improve the focus of writing with main sentences, supporting details, and closing sentence
- AISL.ELA.05.G2.03 Collect and arrange ideas in a planning format (e.g. chart, list, web, story map) and being to edit written work to improve content and clarity
- AISL.ELA.05.G2.04 Use alternative words and expressions which are more accurate or advanced than overused choices (e.g using new and varying adjectives and sentence starters)
- AISL.ELA.06 LISTENING: Students will listen and respond critically to oral communication.
