- AISL.ELA.01 READING-FLUENCY: Students will read fluently using the skills and strategies of the reading process.
- AISL.ELA.01.G1.01 Match oral words to printed words.
- AISL.ELA.01.G1.02 Identify the title and author of a reading selection.
- AISL.ELA.01.G1.03 Identify letters, words and sentences.
- AISL.ELA.01.G1.04 Distinguish initial, medial and final sounds in single syllable words.
- AISL.ELA.01.G1.05 Distinguish long-and-short vowel sounds in orally stated single-syllable words (e.g. bit/bite).
- AISL.ELA.01.G1.06 Create and state a series of rhyming words, including consonant blends.
- AISL.ELA.01.G1.07 Add, delete or change target sounds to change words e.g. change cow to how).
- AISL.ELA.01.G1.08 Blend two or more phonemes into recognizable words (e.g. c/a/t = cat).
- AISL.ELA.01.G1.09 Segment single-syllable words into their components (e.g. cat = c/a/t).
- AISL.ELA.02 READING-COMPREHENSION: Students will comprehend, respond to, and analyze a wide variety of literary texts.

- AISL.ELA.03 READING-STRATEGIES: Students will apply skills and strategies appropriate for decoding reading of unfamiliar words in a variety of texts
- AISL.ELA.03.G1.01 Generate the sounds from all the letters and letter patterns, including consonant blends and long and short vowel patterns (i.e. phonograms) and blend those sounds into recognizable words.
- AISL.ELA.03.G1.02 Read common irregular sight words (e.g. , the, have, said, come)
- AISL.ELA.03.G1.03 Read compound words and contractions.
- AISL.ELA.03.G1.04 Read inflectional forms (e.g., -s, -ed, -ing) and root words (e.g., look, looked, looking).
- AISL.ELA.03.G1.05 Read aloud with fluency in a manner that sounds like natural speech.
- AISL.ELA.04 WRITING-MECHANICS: Students will write using the appropriate conventions of the English language.
- AISL.ELA.04.G1.01 Demonstrate a correct use of standard writing conventions (e.g., spelling, punctuation, capitalization, grammar and usage, paragraphing) and use conventions effectively to enhance readability.
