Who We Are
Our Teachers
We have an outstanding faculty who foster individualized self-directed learning and independent thinking, and our school is characterized by high standards, collegiality and a strong sense of community. AISL teachers are talented, highly qualified, committed to the intellectual, social and physical development of students, and are eager to contribute to school life beyond the classroom. AISL values candidates who have experience with students from diverse backgrounds, whose pursuit of professional development is keen and ongoing, and whose academic background and teaching experience are directly relevant to the position.
We value diversity in our faculty and AISL teachers hail from all over the globe. Of our small faculty, representing 8 different nationalities, about 40% of our teachers come from across the United States and 60% represent countries from four other continents, including Australia, India, and several African nations. Additionally, many of our faculty have held posts previously in other international schools worldwide.
Professional Development
AISL is committed to supporting and encouraging ongoing learning by its faculty. The AISL Board devotes a generous percentage of its budget to adult learning. We are developing a robust program of AISL teachers mentoring and teaching each other, as well as colleagues and aspiring teachers from throughout Lesotho, working together across the School to improve student learning.
AISL also provides support for teachers pursuing higher degrees at regional and US universities through summer study, online university programs and local programs. Recently, AISL faculty have received support for programs through the University of the Free State in South Africa, George Mason University, SUNY-Buffalo, the Association for the Advancement of International Education, the U.S. Department of State, and the Association of International Schools in Africa.
